HELP no internet sounds?!?

This morning it was fine, then I tried playing Kawaks but it wouldnt open saying direct sound blah blah something... SO i went and tweaked some and I heared by downloading and installing the latest versioin of directx would solve the problem... Well itmade it worse. I downloaded direct x june (i dont know the exact name) and i clicked it, extracted file to desktop then moved all the files to a folder then clicked the directX setup, it was simple straight forward and when it was finished nothing else popped up and yeah.. Well it didnt help my game AND THEN i find out my internet sounds are not working, like my msn sounds work and my computer sound FX works but nothing in the internet? Help me?!!?!?
