Why does my itouch crash everytime i click the volume button?

the sound wasnt working on my itouch and would only work when the headphones where plugged in, so i went online and researched how to fix it, so it said i needed to clean the port out with a Q-tip. So i tried it out to see if it worked and it kept crashing everytime I pressed the volume button! Can someone help me with these issues? Oh, and if it helps my itouch is jailbroken so if anyone knew of a cydia tweak or app to fix it that would be great too. Thank you :D
